Darko Bozinovski, a student from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies within FON University, received a prestigious reward from the World Bank - the „Popular Choice Award“ for his project „World“ in a competition with universities from all of the world. The ceremony was hel in Washington, USA. Mentor of this project was Gorgi Kakashevski.
The application processes the data of all world bases, systematises it and publishes it as an information with special ,,applet” developed for this purpose. All of the applications that participated were posted on the internet page of the World Bank, and the project of the FON student was voted as the best by the whole global academic community that voted during the last period.
Universities from all over the world applied for the competition organised by the World Bank entitled ,,Apps for development”, which is part of the bank’s millennium goals, and worked on apps that measure the progress of the global events toward those millennium goals.
According to the president of the World Bank, Robert Zoellick, this competition enables “breaking” the monopoly and creating innovative solutions. The apps clearly show how software development can use the technology in order to analyse and understand the problems of the modern times.
Apart from the official reward, Bozhinovski was awarded a prize of $ 5,000.
